Sunday is my favourite day of the week because I can stop thinking about work and devote myself totally to my family, my little Chiara and a bit of relaxation. Sunday is also the day when I can take nice walks through the streets of my city without having to run because of work commitments. Yesterday I took a nice walk along Viale Dante, an avenue in my city that has an open-air art gallery on one side.
In September 2016, twenty-four artists from my region, Basilicata, coloured a part of Viale Dante with their artwork.
The metal structures on the avenue have all been artistically embellished, such as the waste receptacle in the following photo, on which the following sentence has been painted:
He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.
Initially, all artworks were protected by transparent panels, but now, after 5 years, many panels have been damaged by weather or vandalism. Because of this, some of the artworks have lost some of their colour but are still beautiful to look at.
This painting has a strong meaning closely linked to my region. Basilicata is the region that has the largest oil field in Italy and oil extraction has guaranteed for years the satisfaction of 5%-6% of the national needs. With the adoption of new extraction techniques, extraction activity will increase and the oil wells in Basilicata will make it possible to meet up to 12% of Italy's annual oil needs.
What benefits has oil extraction brought to Basilicata?
Jobs? Wealth?
None whatsoever:
- work is scarce and young people in my region continue to emigrate to other regions
- the cost of petrol at petrol stations in Basilicata is higher than the cost at the pump in many other regions of Italy that do not produce oil
- in the areas near the oil wells the beautiful green landscape of my region has been contaminated and disfigured.
Oil? No Thanks!
Underneath the painting the artist left a sentence that I like very much:
"When we realize the abyss we are falling into on all sides be sure that Art will come to the rescue
Oil is also the theme of the two paintings in the next two photos...
Mother Nature gives us emotions, well-being and beauty all the time, but we humans continue to mistreat and exploit her...
In the following painting the Nature theme is predominant and the message is clear...
The open-air art gallery stretches along a path of about 200 metres and the paintings are separated by small areas where there is a bench built of stone.
Lots of colours and lots of creativity in the diversity of themes covered by the various artists.

The world that we humans are slowly destroying does not need oil, wars, hatred and racism. The world we live in needs love for ourselves and for all other living beings, but above all it needs to rediscover love and respect for the mother of us all: Mother Nature. The world we live in is in desperate need of solidarity, empathy, culture, art and freedom.
My beloved region is one of the greenest in Italy and there are many beautiful places to visit. If you find yourself passing through my city (Potenza), I suggest you take a walk along Viale Dante where you can admire the paintings I have shown you in this post.
I hope you enjoyed this walk among colours and paintings, even if it was a virtual one, and I thank you for the time you dedicated to me.
Una Galleria D'Arte A Cielo Aperto
La domenica è il giorno della settimana che preferisco perchè mi autovieto di pensare al lavoro e mi dedico totalmente alla mia famiglia e al relax. La domenica è anche il giorno in cui riesco a fare delle belle passeggiate per le vie della mia città senza dover correre o pensare ai vari impegni di lavoro. Ieri ho fatto una bella passeggiata lungo Viale Dante, su un lato di questo viale c'è una galleria d'arte a cielo aperto.
Nel settembre dell'anno 2016 ventiquattro artisti della mia regione, la Basilicata, hanno colorato una parte di Viale Dante con i loro lavori artistici.
Le strutture in metallo presenti sul viale sono state tutte abbellite artisticamente come l'alloggiamento rifiuti nella foto seguente sul quale è stata dipinta la seguente frase:
Chi lavora con le sue mani e la sua testa ed il suo cuore è un artista
Inizialmente tutte le opere artistiche erano protette da pannelli trasparenti ma oggi,dopo 5 anni, molti pannelli si sono rovinati a causa degli agenti atmosferici o a causa di atti di vandalismo. Per questo motivo alcune opere artistiche hanno perso un pò di colore ma rimangono ancora belle da vedere.
Questa pittura ha un forte significato strettamente collegato alla mia regione. La Basilicata è la regione che ha il più grande giacimento petrolifero d'Italia e l'estrazione del petrolio ha garantito per anni il soddisfacimento del 5%-6% del fabbisogno nazionale. Con l'adozione di nuove tecniche di estrazione l'attività di estrazione aumenterà e i pozzi petroliferi della basilicata permetteranno di soddisfare fino al 12% del fabbisogno annuo di petrolio di tutta l'Italia.
Quali benefici ha portato l'estrazione del petrolio in Basilicata?
Lavoro? Ricchezza?
Nulla di tutto questo:
- il lavoro è poco e i giovani della mia regione continuano ad emigrare verso altre regioni
- il costo della benzina nei distributori della Basilicata è più alto rispetto al costo alla pompa di benzina in molte altre regioni d'Italia che non producono petrolio
- nelle aree vicine ai pozzi petroliferi il bellissimo paesaggio verde della mia regione è stato contaminato e deturpato.
Petrolio? No Grazie!
Sotto al dipinto l'artista ha lasciato una frase che mi piace molto:
Quando ci arrorgeremo del baratro in cui stiamo finendo da ogni parte siate sicuri che verrà in soccorso l'Arte
Il petrolio è anche il tema dei due dipinti nelle due foto successive...
Madre Natura ci regala continuamente emozioni, benessere e bellezza ma noi uomini continuiamo a maltrattarla e a sfruttuarla...
Nel seguente dipinto il tema Natura è predominante e il messaggio è chiaro...
La galleria d'arte a cielo aperto si sviluppa su un percorso di circa 200 metri w i quadri sono separati da piccole aree in cui c'è una panchina costruita in pietra.
Tanti colori e tanta creatività nella diversità di temi trattati dai vari artisti.
Nella foto seguente c'è un omaggio dell'artista Luigi Caldararo al poeta Vito Riviello, poeta nato a Potenza nel 1933 e morto a Roma nel 2009.
Vito Riviello è tra i più originali poeti italiani del secondo dopoguerra.

Ci sono ancora tanti dipitinti da vedere e quindi continuiamo la nostra passeggiata :)
Il mondo che noi uomini stiamo pian piano distruggendo non ha bisogno di petrolio, guerre, odio e razzismo. Il mondo in cui viviamo ha bisogno di amore per noi stessi e per tutti gli altri esseri viventi ma ha soprattutto bisogno di ritrovare l'amore e il rispetto per la madre di tutti noi: Madre Natura. Il mondo in cui viviamo ha un disperato bisogno di solidarietà, empatia, cultura, arte e libertà.
La mia amata regione è una delle regioni più verdi d'Italia e ci sono tanti bei posti da visitare e se ti trovi a passare per la mia città (Potenza) ti consiglio di fare una passeggiata per Viale Dante dove potrai ammirare dal vivo i dipinti che ti ho mostrato in questo post.
Spero che questa passeggiata anche se virtuale tra colori e dipinti, ti sia piaciuta e ti ringrazio per il tempo che mi hai dedicato.
