Close your eyes and imagine you can no longer speak! Could you stay one day without being able to express your opinion about something or someone you care about? I do not, it would be as if I had no more air to breathe and I would feel suffocated.
Free Speech is an inviolable right
We all communicate in various ways: we talk, write, sing, dance, play ...
Speaking is one of the many ways we can communicate.
Speaking freely and without censorship is much, much more: it is an inviolable right that should never be questioned and should be defended with all our strength.
Obviously, however, a distinction must be made.
Having the freedom to speak by affirming racist theories, for example, is not a right or a manifestation of Liberty but only stupidity, ignorance and horrible wickedness.
The great importance of defending and saving free speech
Defending free speech is very important because it means preserving the beauty of diversity.
We are different from each other: we speak different languages, we have different opinions, thoughts and desires, we also dress differently.
Each of us is unique, there is no clone of ourselves!
Yet this diversity is often seen as a danger while it is an immense wealth.
Listening to new theories, different thoughts and opinions, different life experiences is a way to grow and broaden one's horizons.
I may not believe in a theory or I may disagree with an opinion but I always accept the discussion of that theory or opinion because from the comparison interesting points of reflection can arise and, why not, I could also change my mind.
Being willing to confront others means being willing to question one's ideas and this is always an act of strength. Those who accept the confrontation know that their ideas have value.
Censorship and Freedom of Speech
Whoever fights opinions differently from his own and uses tools such as censorship, strength and fear does so because he knows that his ideas have no value except for him.
Let's take a trip back in time: history is the greatest teacher of life (or at least it should be).
Every totalitarian and dictatorial regime has always had a great enemy to fight: freedom of thought and speech.
Why is a dictatorship so afraid of freedom of speech and opinion?
Because the right words can move people's minds and consciences. Because the power of dictatorship is only fear and terror. At its base there is no valid idea but only a great thirst for power.
Limiting free speech is one way of approaching a dictatorship. Limiting free speech means starting an involutionary process. This involutionary process always coincides with the centralization of power and wealth in the hands of a single person, a small group of people or an institution.
Some time ago I discussed with a person who said:
It would take a dictatorship to make everything better!
I replied:
If you are convinced of what you say, prove it with facts and not with words! Start to shut up and accept whatever is imposed on you without protesting because this is how dictatorship works.
I would have preferred that my interlocutor was censored because he doesn't think like me?
Think about it, if this person couldn't say what he thought I would never have understood who I was talking to: an unintelligent person.
Centralization and Decentralization
Centralized Web Platforms
Facebook, Youtube and now even Steemit (until some time ago I never thought I could say or write it) began to "moderate" posts and authors. When something is bad, centralized power always tries to beautify it, to make it more "digestible".
For example, incinerators are better called "waste-to-energy plants". Censorship is better to call it "moderation".
The worst thing is that those who are banned or censored often have no explanation. Yet these platforms continue to be successful.
Decentralized Web Platforms
Blockchain is not only the biggest cyber revolution of the past 10 years, it is above all a peaceful and digital rebellion against centralization and the ensuing censorship.
Censorship and centralization are closely linked and are directly proportional.
Hive, Treespeak instead are concrete examples of digital democracy where freedom is a pillar, it is an important principle. I really hope that one day Hive and Treespeak can compete and maybe supplant Facebook, Youtube and Co.

Chiudi gli occhi e immagina di non poter più parlare! Riusciresti a stare un solo giorno senza poter esprimere la tua opinione su qualcosa o qualcuno che tieni a cuore? Io mi sentirei come se di colpo mi mancasse l'aria e non potessi più respirare.
La libertà di espressione è un diritto inviolabile
Tutti noi comunichiamo in vari modi: parliamo, scriviamo, cantiamo, balliamo, suoniamo...
Parlare è uno dei tanti modi che abbiamo per comunicare.
Parlare liberamente e sensa censura è molto ma molto di più: è un diritto inviolabile che non dovrebbe mai essere messo in discussione e dovrebbe essere difeso con tutte le proprie forze.
Ovviamente bisogna però fare un distinguo.
Avere la libertà di parlare affermando teorie razziste, ad esempio, non è un diritto o una manifestazione di Libertà ma solo stupidità, ignoranza e cattiveria.
L'importanza di difendere e salvare la Libertà di Parola
Difendere la libertà di parola è importantissimo perchè significa preservare la bellezza della diversità.
Siamo diversi gli uni dagli altri: parliamo lingue diverse, abbiamo opinioni, pensieri e desideri diversi, ci vestiamo in modo diverso. Ognuno di noi è unico, non esiste un clone di noi stessi!
Eppure questa diversità è spesso vista come un pericolo mentre è un'immensa ricchezza.
Ascoltare teorie nuove, pensieri e opinioni differenti, esperienze di vita diverse è un modo per crescere e per ampliare i propri orizzonti.
Io posso non credere ad una teoria o posso non essere d'accordo con un'opinione ma accetto sempre la discussione di tale teoria o opinione perchè dal confronto possono nascere spunti di riflessione interessanti e, perche no, potrei anche cambiare idea.
Avere voglia di confrontarsi con gli altri significa essere disposti a mettere le proprie idee in discussione e questo è sempre un atto di forza. Chi accetta il confronto sa che le sue idee hanno valore.
Censura e Libertà di parola
Chi combatte duramente le opinioni diverse dalla propria e utilizza strumenti come la censura, la forza e la paura lo fa perchè sà bene che le sue idee non hanno alcun valore se non per lui.
Facciamo un viaggio indietro nel tempo: la storia è la più grande maestra di vita (o almeno dovrebbe esserlo).
Ogni regime totalitario e dittatoriale ha avuto sempre un grande nemico da combattere: la libertà di pensiero e di parola.
Perchè una dittatura ha tanta paura della libertà di parola e di opinione?
Perchè le giuste parole possono smuovere gli animi e le coscienze delle persone. Perchè il potere della dittatura è solo la paura e il terrore. Alla sua base non c'è nessuna idea valida ma solo una grande sete di potere.
Limitare la libertà di parola è un modo per avvicinarsi ad una dittatura. Limitare la libertà di parola significa iniziare un processo involutivo. Questo processo involutivo coincide sempre con l'accentramento di potere e ricchezza nelle mani di una sola persona, di un piccolo gruppo di persone o di un'istituzione.
Qualche tempo fa ho discusso con una persona che affermava:
Ci vorrebbe una dittatura per rimettere tutto a posto!
Io gli ho risposto:
Se sei convinto di quello che dici dimostralo con i fatti e non con le parole! Inizia a stare zitto e ad accettare tutto quello che ti viene imposto senza protestare perchè così funziona la dittatura.
Avrei preferito che il mio interlocutore fosse censurato perchè non la pensa come me?
Assolutamente no!
Pensaci, se questa persona non poteva dire quello che pensava non avrei mai capito con chi stavo parlando: una simpatica ed educata persona ma decisamente poco intelligente e facilmente manipolabile.
Centralizzazione e Decentralizzazione
Piattaforme Web Centralizzate
Facebook, Youtube e adesso anche Steemit (chi l'avrebbe mai pensato fino a qualche mese fa ) hanno iniziato a "moderare" post e autori. Quando una cosa è brutta il potere centralizzato cerca sempre di abbellirla, di renderla più "digeribile".
Gli inceneritori, ad esempio, è meglio chiamarli "Termovalorizzatori". La censura è meglio chiamarla "moderazione".
La cosa più brutta è che chi viene bannato o censurato spesso non ha nessuna spiegazione. Eppure queste piattaforme continuano ad avere successo.
Piattaforme Web Decentralizzate
La blockchain non è soltanto la più grande rivoluzione informatica degli ultimi 10 anni, è soprattutto una ribellione pacifica e digitale alla centralizzazione e alla censura che ne consegue.
Censura e centralizzazione sono strettamente collegate e sono direttamente proporzionali.
Hive, Treespeak invece sono esempi concreti di democrazia digitale dove la libertà è un pilastro, è un principio importante. Spero tanto che un giorno Hive e Treespeak possano competere e magari soppiantare Facebook, Youtube e Co.
Conclusione
La libertà di parola è un diritto inviolabile che ognuno di noi dovrebbe avere ma soprattutto difendere. La libertà di parola è per me come l'aria che respiro. La libertà di parola è ossigeno puro.
