On the Splinterlands website it is no longer possible to buy packs of cards from the Untamed collection because they are sold out.
The only packs you can buy directly from the Splinterlands website are the card packs from the DICE collection.
At the time of writing this post the remaining DICE card packs are 133183.
I have on my Splinterlands in-game wallet 59198 DEC tokens.
To buy 20 packs of DICE cards (+ 1 Bonus pack) from the Splinterlands website you need 60000 DEC tokens but I have a discount due to the level of the Guild I belong to and 20 packs of DICE cards would cost me a bit less: 58200 DEC tokens.
So I have an amount of DEC tokens to buy 20 packs of DICE cards.
My strategy for buying Splinterlands card packs is as follows: I buy a pack of cards if the estimated value is greater than the purchase cost by at least $0.40.
23 days ago I bought 110 packs of Untamed cards because the difference between the estimated value and the purchase price was more than $0.60 per pack.
Today June 23, 2021 I did some calculations to see if buying 20 packs of DICE cards was a good idea or not and I wanted to share my calculations in case they might be useful to other Splinterlands players and my readers.
When buying a pack of cards there is one important factor to consider: Whether or not you possess a sufficient number of alchemical or legendary potions: 5 alchemical potions + 5 legendary potions per pack of cards.
If you don't have this amount of potions, the estimated value decreases and if you decide to buy them, the cost increases.
I only open a card pack when I have 5 potions of each type and when I have obtained these potions from completing daily quests (totally free of charge).
In the following image I have calculated the expected profit, i.e. the difference between the estimated value and the purchase cost in the case where you already have the necessary potions and therefore do not have to buy them.
The only two cases where the expected profit is a positive value is when you buy 20 packs of cards in bulk or 100 packs of cards in bulk from the Splinterlands website.
The expected profit is definitely low compared to the value of my buying strategy so I decided not to buy.
As you can see from the calculations in the following image the situation gets worse if you also have to buy potions (5 alchemical and 5 legendary).
The expected profit is always negative! Definitely not a good time to buy a DICE card pack!
Packs of DICE cards can also be purchased from https://monstermarket.io/shop for 2500 DEC.
In this case the expected profit is positive but does not reach the $0.4 value that would have prompted me to buy.

Oggi 23 giugno 2021 ho fatto un pò di calcoli per verificare se comprare 20 pacchi di carte DICE era una buona idea oppure no e volevo condividere le mie valutazioni nel caso possano essere utili ad altri giocatori di Splinterlands e ai miei lettori.
Quando si compra un pacco di carte c'è un fattore importante da considerare: il possesso o meno di un numero sufficiente di pozioni alchemiche o leggendarie: 5 pozioni alchemiche + 5 pozioni leggendarie per ogni pacco di carte.
Nel caso non si possiede questo quantitativo di pozioni il valore stimato diminuisce e se si decide di comprarle il costo di acquisto aumenta.
Io apro un pacco di carte solo quando ho 5 pozioni per ogni tipo e quando ho ottenuto queste pozioni dal completamento delle missioni giornaliere (in modo totalmente gratuito).
Nell'immagine seguente ho calcolato il profitto atteso cioè la differenza tra valore stimato e costo di acquisto nel caso in cui si è già in possesso delle pozioni necessarie e quindi non bisogna acquistarle.
Gli unici due casi in cui il profitto atteso è un valore positivo è nel caso in cui si acquistano 20 pacchi di carte in blocco oppure 100 pacchi di carte in blocco dal sito di Splinterlands.
Il profitto atteso è decisamente basso rispetto al valore della mia strategia di acquisto e quindi ho deciso di non comprare.
Come puoi vedere dai calcoli dell'immagine seguente la situazione peggiora nel caso bisogna acquistare anche le pozioni (5 alchemiche e 5 leggendarie).
Il profitto atteso è sempre negativo! Non è decisamente un buon momento per comprare un pacco di carte DICE!

In questo caso il profitto atteso è positivo ma non raggiunge il valore di 0.4$ che mi avrebbero spinto all'acquisto.
