Splinterlands Quidditch[A 12 Mana Game]

One of the most important conditions to consider when choosing cards is the Mana Cap. When the Mana Cap is high there are many possible choices and consequently there are many applicable strategies. When the Mana Cap is low, the range of possible choices is reduced and there are basically two possible strategies:
- Strategy 1: Bet on a single card with a strong attack, good defense and a high mana cost.
- Strategy 2: Bet on multiple cards that have a single cost in terms of low mana.
When the mana Cap is very low, the strategy I use the most in my battles is Strategy 2.
A battle of mine with Mana Cap: 12

My battle formation

Why did I field Flesh Golem (Level 4) in first position?
When there are few mana available, it's a card I frequently use in first position.
It has excellent statistics:
- Has a relatively low mana cost (6)
- It has 9 life points which are many for a card that costs only 6 mana.
- Has an average speed (3) that becomes 4 thanks to the combined use with Brownie.
- Has a good attack (3) which becomes 4 thanks to the combined use with Brownie.
- Has an excellent ability: Heal.

Second position

It is a very useful card for two reasons:
- costs only one point in terms of mana (particularly useful when the mana cap is 12)
- has the Slow ability that allows me to reduce the speed of the opponent's cards by one point.
Thanks to the card speed changes by Creeping Ooze and Brownie I get a small advantage in battle as almost all of my cards attack before my opponent's cards.
Why the second position?
Usually I put Creeping Ooze in the last positions. In the battle of this post I chose instead the second position because I wanted to protect Khmer Princess in case my opponent had deployed a card with the ability Reach in second position (like Manticore for example).
Third position

Costs only 2 Mana and has the ability Tank Heal It's a card that I really like and that I often use particularly when there are few mana available. Flesh Golem will have much more stamina thanks to the healing ability of Khmer Princess and will have +4 life restored to each round of the game.
Fourth position

Level 4 Brownie has two excellent abilities. The Switfness ability allows it to increase the speed of itself and a unit's friendly cards. Thanks to the ability Inspired increases the attack of friendly cards by one point. Given its low cost in terms of mana (1), it's a very valuable card! I always try to deploy Brownie in the middle positions (3-4) to protect it. In the battle of this post it is not necessary to protect it because the Equalizer rule eliminates one of Brownie's biggest flaws: the few life points.
Summoner
Xander Foxwood
Summoner of the Natura element

If I use Xander Foxwood together with Brownie (level 4) I have the same mana cost as Lyanna Natura (3) but I have two abilities: Inspire and Swiftness instead of one.

In addition Xander Foxwood allows to summon higher level cards than Lyanna Natura of the same level.
Running the battle
ROUND 1

At the end of Round 1 my card that takes the most damage is Khmer Princess which is targeted by my opponent's Screeching Vulture. My opponent chooses to bet on a card without attack in first position that loses 5 life during the first round.

ROUND 2
At the beginning of Round 2 my opponent loses Failed Summoner which is eliminated by the attack of Khmer Princess.

For example a formation that I used in some battles is the following:

The correct battle formation is the one chosen considering very carefully:
- battle rules
- the cards your opponent often uses
To get an idea of the cards that your opponent uses most often, it can be very useful to take a quick look at the screen that precedes the choice of cards to send in battle:

Who wins the battle?
Who is luckier and therefore who (randomly chosen):
- attack first
- avoid one or more of your opponent's attacks.
