Untamed card packs: Estimated Value, Expected Profit, and 9 open card packs
Hi Hivers and Splinterlands players, the value of Splinterlands cards has been steadily increasing, an increase that has become especially high over the past couple of months. The cards have increased in market value, and as a result, the estimated value and purchase cost of the card packs has also increased. On May 31, 2021, I bought 100 packs of Untamed cards from the Shop section of the Splinterlands website and received a total of 110 packs (10 bonus packs).
Today it is no longer possible to buy Untamed card packs from the Shop section of the Splinterlands site because they have been sold out for some time.
When I made my purchase, I spent 200000 DEC tokens.
On May 31, 2021, 200000 DEC tokens had a value of 438 HIVE = $181.77 and based on this value I spent $1.65 per pack of cards.
I decided to make this purchase because on May 31 the difference between the estimated value of a pack of Untamed cards and its purchase price was a positive value: +0.66755 $. The value of +0.66755 $ referred to the case of opening a pack of cards using 5 alchemical potions and 5 legendary potions for each pack of cards without the need to buy potions because they were received by completing daily quests.
Today, August 12, and after 2 months and 12 days, the cost of a pack of Untamed cards has increased a lot and so has its estimated value:

These values confirm the goodness of my choice to buy on May 31, 2021 and in fact, based on today's estimated value of a pack of Untamed cards, my expected profit for the packs I have yet to open is $17.58755 per pack.
My purchase choice is correct even if I consider the current value of the 200000 DEC tokens I spent on May 31. In this case the Expected Profit is lower than the previous value but it is still a very good value.
So far I've opened 68 packs of the 110 I've bought, and today I've decided to open 9 more packs because since completing the daily quests and the rewards of my last season of Splinterlands I've accumulated enough potions to open just 9 packs of cards.
Before I show the cards I found inside the 9 card packs I opened, I want to calculate the expected profit of an Untamed card pack purchased and opened today. I hope these calculations will be useful to those of my readers who are considering purchasing a pack of Untamed cards from Hive Engine (https://hive-engine.com/?p=market&t=UNTAMED).
Today, August 12, 2021, a pack of Untamed cards costs 41.87 HIVE = $19.26.
At this very moment it is not convenient to buy a pack of cards from Hive Engine because, as you can see from the calculations in the following image, the expected profit is a negative value: -0.020$
The expected profit becomes an even more negative value if you don't have 5 alchemical potions and 5 legendary potions per pack to open and you have to buy them.
I would buy a pack of cards at the purchase price of $13-$15 but right now and at current prices I prefer not to buy additional packs of Untamed cards.
But now let's see if I was lucky or unlucky in opening my 9 packs of Untamed cards.
The first pack makes me immediately happy because I immediately find a legendary card: the Diamond Dragon card!
Total value of the cards found inside the first pack: 26.83 $ (Market Price)
The second pack of cards gives me less satisfaction but I still find a good value: 3.78$
The third pack got me as excited as the first pack again because the second card started to shake before revealing itself: the legendary card: Dragon Jumper!
Total value of the cards found in the third pack: $64.36
Total value of cards found in the fourth pack: $4.10
Total value of cards found in the fifth pack: $3.96
Total value of cards found in the sixth pack: $2.47
Total value of cards found in the seventh pack: $10.65
Total value of cards found in the eighth pack: $5.44
Total value of cards found in the ninth pack: $7.48
The total value of the cards I found inside the 9 packs of Untamed cards I opened is $129.07 (using market prices)
If I consider the cost per pack I incurred on May 31, the profit is really high: +114.19$.
But since I used 200k DEC tokens for the purchase it seems more correct to consider the cost based on the current value of the DEC tokens. I still get a good profit: +22.78$
I got a lower real profit than the expected profit.
The estimated value of a pack of Splinterlands cards is not a certain value and 9 packs of cards is too small a number to expect the value of the expected profit to be close to the value of the real profit and luck plays a decisive role... The estimated value of a pack of Splinterlands cards becomes an increasingly accurate and reliable value as you open more than 500 packs of cards.
But if instead of May 31 I had chosen to buy the 9 packs of cards from Hive Engine today, August 12, at the price of $19.26 each, what would have been my result?
If I had bought the Untamed card packs from Hive Engine today I would have had the following negative result: -44.09$
The value of the cards in the Untamed collection may continue to grow in the future and in that case the difference between estimated value and purchase cost may become positive in the future but until now I have always relied on the difference between estimated value and purchase cost to choose whether to buy a pack of cards and for that reason today I would buy a pack of Untamed cards at a price of $13-$15 and not $19.

Pacchi di carte Untamed: Valore Stimato, Profitto Atteso e 9 pacchi di carte aperti
Ciao Hivers e giocatori di Splinterlands, il valore delle carte di Splinterlands ha avuto un costante incremento, incremento che è diventato particolarmente elevato negli ultimi due mesi. Le carte hanno aumentato il loro valore di mercato e di conseguenza è aumentato anche il valore stimato e il costo di acquisto dei pacchi di carte. Il 31 maggio 2021 ho comprato 100 pacchi di carte Untamed dalla sezione Shop del sito di Splinterlands e ho ricevuto in totale 110 pacchi (10 pacchi bonus).
Oggi non è più possibile acquistare i pacchi di carte Untamed dalla sezione Shop del sito di Splinterlands perchè sono esauriti da tempo.
Quando ho fatto il mio acquisto ho speso 200000 token DEC.
Il 31 maggio 2021, 200000 token DEC avevano il valore di 438 HIVE = 181.77$ e in base a questo valore io ho speso per ogni pacco di carte 1.65$.
Ho deciso di fare questo acquisto perchè il 31 maggio la differenza tra il valore stimato di un pacco di carte Untamed e il suo prezzo di acquisto era un valore positivo: +0.66755 $. Il valore di +0.66755 $ si riferiva al caso di apertura di un pacco di carte utilizzando 5 pozioni alchemiche e 5 pozioni leggendarie per ogni pacco di carte senza la necessità di comprare le pozioni perchè ricevute dal completamento delle missioni giornaliere.
Oggi 12 agosto e dopo 2 mesi e 12 giorni il costo di un pacco di carte Untamed è aumentato di molto ed è aumentato di molto anche il suo valore stimato:

Questi valori confermano la bontà della mia scelta di acquisto in data 31 maggio 2021 e infatti, in base al valore odierno del valore stimato di un pacco di carte Untamed, il mio profitto atteso per i pacchi che devo ancora aprire è di 17.58755$ per ogni pacco.
La mia scelta di acquisto è corretta anche se considero il valore attuale dei 200000 token DEC che ho speso il 31 maggio. In questo caso il Profitto Atteso è inferiore al valore precedente ma è comunque un ottimo valore.
Fino ad oggi ho aperto 68 pacchi dei 110 che ho comprato e oggi ho deciso di aprire altri 9 pacchi perchè dal completamento delle missioni giornaliere e dalla ricompensa della mia ultima stagione di Splinterlands ho accumulato un numero sufficiente di pozioni per aprire proprio 9 pacchi di carte.
Prima di mostrare le carte che ho trovato all'interno dei 9 pacchi di carte che ho aperto, voglio calcolare il profitto atteso di un pacco di carte Untamed acquistato e aperto oggi. Spero che questi calcoli possano essere utili a chi dei miei lettori sta valutando l'acquisto di un pacco di carte Untamed da Hive Engine (https://hive-engine.com/?p=market&t=UNTAMED).
Oggi 12 agosto 2021 un pacco di carte Untamed ha un costo di 41.87 HIVE = 19.26$
In questo preciso momento non è conveniente comprare un pacco di carte da Hive Engine perchè, come puoi vedere dai calcoli nell'immagine seguente, il profitto atteso è un valore negativo: -0.020$
Il profitto atteso diventa un valore ancora più negativo se non si possiedono 5 pozioni alchemiche e 5 pozioni leggendarie per ogni pacco da aprire e bisogna acquistarle.
Io comprerei un pacco di carte al prezzo di acquisto di 13$ - 15$ ma in questo momento e ai prezzi attuali preferisco non comprare ulteriori pacchi di carte Untamed.
Ma adesso vediamo se sono stato fortunato o sfortunato nell'apertura dei miei 9 pacchi di carte Untamed.
Il primo pacco mi rende subito felice perchè trovo subito una carta leggendaria: la carta Diamond Dragon!

Il secondo pacco di carte mi dà meno soddisfazioni ma trovo comunque un buon valore: 3.78$
Il terzo pacco mi ha fatto emozionare di nuovo come il primo pacco perchè la seconda carta ha iniziato a tremare prima di rivelarsi: la carta leggendaria: Dragon Jumper!

Valore totale delle carte trovate nel quarto pacco: 4.10$
Valore totale delle carte trovate nel quinto pacco: 3.96$
Valore totale delle carte trovate nel sesto pacco: 2.47$

Valore totale delle carte trovate nell'ottavo pacco: 5.44$

Il valore totale delle carte che ho trovato all'interno dei 9 pacchi di carte Untamed che ho aperto è di 129.07$ (utilizzando i prezzi di mercato)
Se considero il costo per pacco che ho sostenuto il 31 maggio il profitto è davvero alto: +114.19$.
Ma poichè ho utilizzato 200k token DEC per l'acquisto mi sembra più corretto considerare il costo in base al valore attuale dei token DEC. Ottengo comunque un buon profitto: +22.78$
Ho ottenuto un profitto reale inferiore al profitto atteso.
Il valore stimato di un pacco di carte di Splinterlands non è un valore certo e 9 pacchi di carte sono un numero troppo piccolo per aspettarsi che il valore del profitto atteso sia vicino al valore del profitto reale e la fortuna gioca un ruolo decisivo... Il valore stimato di un pacco di carte di Splinterlands diventa un valore sempre più accurato e attendibile quando si aprono più di 500 pacchi di carte.
Ma se invece del 31 maggio avessi scelto di acquistare oggi 12 agosto i 9 pacchi di carte da Hive Engine al prezzo di 19.26$ l'uno quale sarebbe stato il mio risultato?
Se avessi comprato oggi i pacchi di carte Untamed da Hive Engine avrei avuto il seguente risultato negativo: -44.09$
Il valore delle carte della collezione Untamed potrebbe continuare a crescere in futuro e in quel caso la differenza tra valore stimato e costo di acquisto potrebbe diventare positiva in futuro ma fino ad oggi per scegliere se acquistare un pacco di carte mi sono sempre affidato alla differenza tra valore stimato e costo di acquisto e per questo motivo oggi comprerei un pacco di carte Untamed ad prezzo di 13$ - 15$ e non 19$.
Ogni gioco che prevede l'acquisto di carte e di token non è mai un semplice gioco ma è anche un investimento e come tale va considerato. Io non sono un consulente finanziario e se decidi di investire nel gioco di Splinterlands lo fai per tua scelta e a tuo rischio.
