Hello friends,
about six months ago my family and I, together with a couple of friends, visited the WWF Oasis which is located in the Pantano area a few kilometers from my city, Potenza.
In this oasis there is a Wild Animal Recovery Center: a small open-air hospital where injured or distressed animals are treated.

Before approaching the animals, the guide, addressing in particular to my daughter and her friend, told us:
Please try to speak softly, we are in a hospital and patients, even if they are not people but animals, must be respected and not frightened.
This small but important attention makes me understand that the person in front of me is moved by true passion and true love for animals. Bravo and congratulations.

The abandoned turtles

We humans know how to be very cruel in different areas and unfortunately also with animals.
An area of the Recovery Center is intended for abandoned turtles.
Turtle abandonment is a growing phenomenon especially in Italy.

Animals are not toys!
Some people consider animals to be objects, like toys.
For these bad people it is too difficult and tiring to bring the turtles to a Specialized Recovery Center ... it is much easier to abandon the turtles in fountains, rivers, lakes or parks.

The problem is serious, some particularly aggressive species can modify the ecosystem of the place where they are abandoned and could overwhelm other native species.

The first guest that catches my attention is this beautiful fox.
It is located in this particular hospital because while crossing the road it was hit by a car.

A month of treatment and as you can see from the photo, she returned to full fitness.
Now she has already been freed as at the time of the visit to the Oasis there was only one week left until the end of her stay.

A beautiful fox. An animal that has always fascinated me: symbol of cunning and protagonist of fairy tales and legends.
One of my favorite fairy tales as a child was "The fox and the grapes". Do you know her?

# Birds of prey

In the aviaries you see in the photos there are birds of prey: the hawks.
Here they are re-educated on the fly and then freed.

Birds of prey can find themselves in a recovery center for several reasons:
- due to injuries caused by impacts against means of transport.
- due to gunshot wounds
- due to intoxication or falls from the nest.

The other activities
***
The WWF Oasis is managed by a cooperative: "Cooperativa Novaterra".
The activity carried out in the Wild Animal Recovery Center is just one of the many activities carried out by the cooperative.

The Oasis is surrounded by greenery and is a site of Community importance. Inside the Oasis there are two lakes. It is possible to visit the oasis through a beautiful guided tour lasting about an hour and a half.

There is also a herbal tea shop and before leaving we enjoyed a delicious hot herbal tea and tasted an excellent organic honey.

Considerations
***
The nature and biodiversity of animals on earth must be protected and respected.
The more species of living beings are present on our planet, the more our planet is full of life.
The staff of the cooperative who runs this animal recovery center was very kind and professional.
The visit was a very nice visit and it was also a way to teach my daughter Chiara and her friend Letizia that animals must be respected and protected and that above all ** they are not toys **.
